Coccidiosis is a potential problem in dogs and cats (especially puppies and kittens) that can cause symptoms including watery, bloody or mucous filled diarrhea and weakness in pups and kittens. This enteric infection (host specific) can also pose outside health risks if the oocysts are shed into the environment. Fecal examinations are used for diagnosis and multiple treatment medications are effective. Follow up fecal exams 1-2 weeks after therapy is necessary to assure appropriate clearing of the problem has occurred.
