Ohio Bill May Impose Uniform Pet Warranty

Senate Bill 173 was heard on June 26th, 2007 and further action may be taken by the committee. The bill could impose significant liability for those breeding locally or selling dogs in-store, including a statutory pet warranty. The warranty would make the pet store give full purchase price of the animal back as a refund within 21 days, if the consumer can show proof that the dog was examined within 14 days of date of purchase with a valid veterinary health certificate stating the animal was ill at the time of purchase. Penalties for failure to comply would include up to 3 times the purchase price of the animal, plus up to $500.00 in vet bills, and attorney fees should the bill pass.
